Have you ever wondered how you could go about finding your brand voice?
Last week I shared some links to some fun tools that can try to “analyze” your writing voice — as best a computer algorithm can.
But as some commenters noted, computers can only go so far. They’re only as good as the humans who programmed them, and voice is something solidly human, and thus very hard to quantify with ones and zeroes.
The only one who can really understand your voice — is you.
Of course, it takes some guidance and some practice to discern your own writing voice. Finding and mimicking someone’s voice is a natural talent I have, but when someone asked me how I did it, I didn’t know what to say.
It was innate, just something I did — not something I thought much about.
But that bothered me. If this was my “super power,” shouldn’t I know how it worked? (With great power comes great responsibility…)
So I spent the last six months documenting, testing, tweaking, and revising my process, and two things have come from it.
What is Brand Voice? The Blogger’s Ultimate Guide
The first thing to come from it is a new ebook entitled “What is Brand Voice? The Blogger’s Ultimate Guide.”
It’s a compact volume, an easy read, and TOTALLY FREE.
In this book, you’ll learn:
- Why brand voice is all in the details
- How terms you haven’t dusted off since high school English class like “diction” and “tone” can help you understand your voice
- And how to analyze your own voice so you can explain it to yourself and others.
Why do you need to be able to explain your brand voice?
When you’re clear on what your brand voice is, writing becomes easier, your best prospects will self-select and come to you, and you’ll make more money with less effort.
The Voice Identification Process
The other thing to come out of this six months of reflection is an entirely new process for uncovering your own brand voice — and then putting it to use in every aspect of your business.
I call this the Voice Identification Process.
If you are:
- Struggling to figure out your brand hook
- Worried that you don’t come across the way you want to in your blog posts or copy
- Still confused about how to define YOUR brand voice after reading my free resources
- Or ready to take your branding to the next level
then the Voice Identification Process is for you.
Right now, there are two levels you can choose: Do It Yourself or Done For You.
The Do It Yourself version is a fully interactive PDF workbook (the exact workbook I use with my one-on-one clients) with questions and instructions to help you unmask your individual voice and create a Codebook that will make every interaction you have with your customers feel fluid and remarkable.
The Done For You version is the exact same questions — but I do the analysis and creation of your Codebook, and so you get the benefit of my experience and expertise in uncovering your individual voice and brand hook.
But if you want to see how the whole thing works, I highly recommend you sign up for the webinar I’m hosting this Thursday. I’ll be putting leadership consultant Jen Vertanan in the hot seat and working through the Voice Identification Process with her — LIVE — so you can see exactly how the whole thing works.
After filling out the workbook, Jen said to me, “Super excited about this… This is like nothing else I’ve ever done… and I’ve done a LOT!!”
Got questions? I’ve got answers. Hit me up in the comments below and let me show you how The Voice Identification Process can work for you!
