New: The Leadership Marketer’s Library

If you’ve been around here for a while, you might remember that roughly a billion Internet years ago (meaning, around 2015 or so) I launched a FREE library of resources to help you improve your content marketing strategy.

And if you haven’t been around for that long, you might not even know it existed…

I’ll explain why in a moment, but the important news for this blog post is that the library has been upgraded! We moved from the old Headway themed site and got some new digs in MemberVault. And since we were moving it all over anyway, I decided to update and upgrade the content inside!

Why the library was gathering dust…

I started the library as a way to collect and provide easy access to all the different lead magnets/content upgrades I was producing at the time. By the end of 2016, I had more than 40 individual content upgrades on my site — different worksheets and resources that people could opt-into and download.

Since people were opting in for multiple lead magnets, we decided to create a place where they could access everything and grab what they wanted or needed. I also hoped it would work as a funnel to upsell people into my paid resources and courses.

Unfortunately, it never really worked that way…

What we discovered is that there was SO MUCH information in the library, people seemed to get overwhelmed and didn’t take action at all. There is good psychological reasoning behind that — and also behind the idea the people generally don’t value free information as much as they do information they paid for.

By the end of 2016, I had realized that focusing on launching and selling products (courses, workbooks, etc.) wasn’t for me, and I redirected my efforts toward one-on-one services.

But what to do with all the goodies in the library?

For a while, they just sat there. We tested both asking people to go opt-in for the library and automatically giving them access when they joined my email list. I wrote several different email nurture sequences to help people navigate and get the most out of the library. Still, nobody (save a few outliers) did much with it.

Late last year we realized that, because Headway wasn’t being updated or supported any more, the site was becoming unstable. I knew I had to rebuild it, so I talked to my accountant about budgeting for the rebuild.

As she entered it into our budget, she asked casually, “And what’s the ROI of doing this?”

The answer? There was none. Not really.

We needed to do it if I wanted to maintain the library; plus my other paid products lived on the same site. Not to mention, I felt irrationally attached to it; there’s so much good information in there, it felt like a shame to mothball everything!

I got a bid for rebuilding the site, and it was considerably higher than I’d expected. That’s when I started playing around with MemberVault.

It was so easy to set up and use, I had the entire library moved over — and UPGRADED with new information! — within two hours.

In fact, it was so easy that I went on to move over my paid products and created a new product (the Content Promotion Bundle — coming soon!) in about a day. And not only was it easy, it was also THOUSANDS of dollars less expensive than rebuilding the library on my site.

Suddenly, the ROI became clear:

I now had a place where I could easily direct people to sign up for the library and buy my paid products. Plus, I could create new paid products that would more than offset the cost of moving with just a few sales.

And the BIG BONUS, from my perspective, is that I could continue to serve people who find me and want to learn from me before they’re ready to work with us one-on-one.
